The Climate Change team provides the central line of advice from the Treasury on core climate change issues and works with a range of other teams across the organisation to help embed climate issues across our work programme. We also lead Treasury's engagement in major cross-government climate change work. The work of our team is wide ranging
- we have elements of strategic and real time advice on major policy decisions, traversing economic, fiscal and wider living standards dimensions.

**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**

This is a newly established and influential role with a focus on climate change adaptation. This role will be focused on driving forward our strategic thinking on how New Zealand can best respond to the wide ranging economic, fiscal and wider living standards implications of the changing climate. The role will involve:

- engaging extensively with stakeholders inside and outside of government at a high level to gather external perspectives, and seek to influence debates
- providing intellectual leadership to develop Treasury positions and frameworks on the core strategic issues New Zealand is likely to face in adapting to a changing climate
- helping us continue to build our capability across the organisation to understand and respond to the challenges presented by climate change.

This is a significant opportunity to help drive the direction of the Treasury's thinking on climate adaptation, and help create the frameworks to support New Zealand to adapt effectively to climate change.

**Ō pūmanawa | About You**

A strong background and significant experience in climate policy and/or relevant areas of economics would be expected in this role. You will also have:

- Excellent policy and intellectual leadership together with highly-developed communication, influencing and relationship management skills
- A demonstrated track record of combining these skills to have influence and impact at a senior and system level
- Experience leading people, complex projects, or policy processes; and a demonstrated ability in supporting, mentoring and developing others
- The ability to motivate and influence others, including by navigating complex or unclear governance and accountabilities across agencies
