The role of a Corrections Officer is about influencing offenders to make the right choices, take the right action at the right time and support their pathway towards an offence-free lifestyle. Our Corrections Officers, both men and women, come from all walks of life and bring a wide range of attributes and life experiences with them. To be eligible you need
- The right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 12 months remaining
- A full New Zealand Driver Licence (or eligible on a Restricted with 3 or less months left to obtain Full)
- To declare any conflicts of interest and previous convictions. Exempt from Clean Slate and all conviction history is released
- The ability to pass a drug test
- Be medically fit for employment and complete a Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness Assessment
Our prisons operate 24/7 - applicants must be able to work shifts on a rotating roster.
We offer fully paid training, starting with a one-week induction at Manawatu Prison, followed by 5 weeks of training at our National Training Centre in Trentham, Wellington, and then 5 weeks back at Manawatu Prison before graduating. Your learning journey will continue with professional practice and development support, along with a clear pathway to career progression.
In return you'll get opportunities for professional development, promotion and the ability to gain a recognised qualification in Offender Management.
This role is base at Whanganui Prison.
**Utu ā-tau | Salary**
Starting salary of $67,519. Once in the role you have the opportunity to achieve national qualifications of varying levels which increase your salary. Level 3 ($72,197) and Level 4 ($77,713)
You also receive a Variable Shift Allowance in addition to your salary.
