Harper Smith is currently recruiting for a dynamic and outgoing junior to intermediate or experienced Civil Estimator to join an established civil contractor in Tauranga. This is a newly established position which will focus on assisting the Contracts Manager in securing new contracts throughout the BOP and surrounding regions.

It will be part of a close knit team and require someone who ideally has a good understanding of civil contracting including earthworks, road works, drainage, and a variety of civil infrastructure projects. You may have been on the tools having worked in the civil contracting industry and retrained in the QS diploma or be looking to develop you existing estimating skills and carry experience in the civil contracting game. This is not a back office position and will entail liaison and negotiation with clients, engineers and sub contractors on a daily basis. You will need to be comfortable speaking with and presenting to key clients and management and passionately marketing the business. We are looking for team player who can easily relate to a variety of people and is committed to bettering themselves.

You will require a sound understanding of the MS Suite and show the ability to easily pick up new systems that will aid your contracts admin activities.

Main tasks of the role:

- Negotiating with clients to obtain work
- Read and interpret plans
- Price jobs start to finish
- Liaise daily with clients, engineers, sub-contractors
- daily onsite visits and consultation

Skills and experience required:

- Quantity Surveying qualification, NZDCE, NZCE, BE, or equivalent
- Post grad experience in estimating/project management/contract management experience in a broad range of civil works
- Accurate and successful track record of notable past projects
- Sound knowledge of a broad range construction styles
- Knowledge of and/or contacts for sub-contractors in central North Island would be an advantage
- Exceptional communication skills
- Adaptable & flexible
- Show initiative and work well as part of team
