Can you bring a Pacific worldview to the work we are doing to achieve better health outcomes for Pacific people in Aotearoa? We know many areas of the health system are not working well for Pacific people, aiga, ngutuare tangata, famili, kāinga, magafoa, kaiga, vuvale and kaaiga (families) and communities. In fact, Pacific health inequities are observed throughout the lifecourse, from pregnancy and early childhood through to older age.
In Pacific Health, we have a clear vision of a system that allows the strength of Pacific families and community voice to be at the heart of what we do, delivering equitable health outcomes for Pacific people and a future where Pacific families live longer, healthier lives.
The Pacific values of family, service, love, reciprocity and respect, along with Pacific culture and customs, influence the way we think and every action we take.
The Pacific Health Group have an opportunity for a **Principal Advisor** to join The Office of the National Director.
As a member of Pacific Health team, this role has shared accountability for supporting the interface between Te Whatu Ora, Government, and the wider state sector. The group is responsible for those functions which support transparency and accountability to New Zealanders, including OIA coordination, Privacy, Ministerial Services and Advice functions.
As a newly developing directorate with varied work responsibilities, we work across teams to establish and maintain consistency in both our processes, and how we represent Te Whatu Ora to the external audiences we engage with. There is scope to contribute to the development of our ways of working, our values, and our collective ethos.
**Mōu | About you**
This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real contribution within our Pacific Health team. Utilise your previous experience in providing leadership, oversight and direction on key pieces of work and delivering on high quality outputs and advice in support of the work programs in the Group.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Relevant business or technical qualification at a tertiary level or considerable professional experience.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the machinery of government, and parliamentary processes and practise, and knowledge of best practices for OIA responses, correspondence, etc.
- Experience working within and interpreting relevant New Zealand legislation.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement to identify, mitigate and escalate risk.
- Experience in coaching and/or mentoring with the ability to provide constructive feedback in an effective way and strong ability to influence others.
**Ka kawea e koe | You will bring**:
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Some Pacific language skills, and a deep understanding of Pacific peoples, customs and cultures.

Te Whatu Ora supports flexible and hybrid working for our kaimahi. In roles that don't require an in-person element, we encourage you to ‘work from where you are.' We want our national teams to be made up of diverse people from across the motu, just like our health system.
**Nau mai, uru mai | Come and join us**
When you join us, you become part of transforming the health system. This is a once in a lifetime change that will touch the lives of everyone in Aotearoa, and future generations.
Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining together of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.
We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures greater access, experience and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system - Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.
**Tō mātou whakahaere ki te tika, te rerekētanga, me te whai wāhi mai | Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion**
