**Process Quality Architect**:
**Firstly, a bit about us**:
Airways provides air traffic management services across 30 million square kilometres - this is one of the largest areas of airspace in the world. Our people manage this airspace by providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping and airspace design services. We work with government, regulatory authorities, airlines, airports and the general aviation community to ensure pilots, passengers and goods reach their destination - safely.
We are almost unique globally because we design our own air traffic management system. That means we write and maintain the code that runs our mission critical systems. That’s pretty cool but it requires a seriously strong attention to detail and systematic approach to development, while still looking to the latest enhancements through continuous improvement.
**About the role**:
The Process Quality Architect is part of the Air Traffic Services Development (ATSD) Unit, which develops and maintains the mission critical software that drives Airways Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. There are three software engineering teams, an ATM engineering team, and an Air Navigation Services (ANS) requirements team. Reporting to the Manager ATS Development, this role is responsible for executing the assurance activities required to prove the attributes of Airways’ Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) and ATM software systems against recognised international standards to the satisfaction of external regulatory authorities.
Initially working with small ATM software teams complying with DO-278A whilst operating successfully in a decades-old agile process, the Process Quality Architect will look to expand the applicability of this or related standards to other technical areas; initially ATM-related static and dynamic aeronautical data delivery, and then networks supporting air traffic operations.
This role works independently of our engineering teams in conducting audits required by standards. It will also work in collaboration with our engineering teams to improve their processes, to reduce the number and severity of defects in the deployed Air Traffic Management systems, increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Airways Technology Group as an organisation, increase operational customer satisfaction, and increase Technology Group staff satisfaction with their process and pride in their work achieved.
**To be successful, you'll need to have**:
- A collaborative approach to working with others, including a willingness and ability to coach and mentor other engineers
- The ability, patience, and tenacity to mentor and coach groups of technically knowledgeable and opinionated people in jointly improving their combined processes and individual practices
- A deep knowledge of quality as it applies to safety-critical systems, and of the relevant documented standards, being able to produce a high standard of complete and concise technical documentation
- Five years or more of experience providing quality improvement to an engineering organisation
- A degree in Computer Science or Engineering or a related numerate discipline, or commensurate industry experience.
**Our Values**:
Airways is committed to reflecting the diversity of Aotearoa and creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where people feel they belong and can be their authentic self at work. To achieve this, we are working hard to gain our Rainbow Tick Accreditation to ensure Airways is a safe and welcoming workplace for all employees.
