Te Papa Atawhai Department of Conservation have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, improvement-focussed individual to bring their expertise and creative, facilitator mindset to lift the maturity of our risk management.
**The position will be focussed on**:
- Utilising your experience to provide support to the Manager Risk and Resilience for improving DOC's Risk Management practices
- Providing support to staff on day-to-day matters with emphasis on improving the quality and visibility of risk-based thinking
- Providing feedback on business cases and operational plans with a focus on improving riskMonitoring and reviewing organisational performance of risk management practices through control environments
- Developing insights using the government Enterprise Risk Maturity Assessment Framework (gERMAF) to link maturity with performance, and provide assurance of the effectiveness of DOC systems
- Leading the ongoing improvement of DOC's risk leadership framework and suite of resources
- Make an impact through this role by influencing internal policies for; Risk Management, as well as Fraud, Conflict of Interest, Gifts and Hospitality, and Protected Disclosures.

The role requires a risk and assurance professional, with experience gained in either the commercial or public sector environment. You will have a keen risk radar and be comfortable operating in complex environments.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Proven skills and knowledge in risk leadership, risk management, and risk-informed decision making
- Operational and corporate experience with skills in facilitation, system design and developing operational procedures and resources
- Good working knowledge of the IIA Three Lines Model
- Creative and modern approaches to risk leadership with the ability to adapt standard approaches toward risk practices that align with bespoke business needs
- Solid facilitator experience in delivering risk workshops using a range of tools and techniques to engage your audience - high EQ
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Current full driver licence.
Desirable
- Knowledge of project management principles and coordination methods
- Ability to think at a systems-wide level.
Mō te tīma | About the team
The Conservation Assurance Unit, within the Public Affairs Group, works across the organisation in conjunction with DOC Leaders to provide independent, objective advice and information that gives us (DOC) confidence in the way we work and operate. This is achieved through the Unit's leadership of enterprise risk management, embedding risk leadership as a foundation of how DOC deals with uncertainty and developing integrated assurance. The Unit is also the primary point of co-ordination and assessment across DOC's internal audit programme and inquiries.
We are a close-knit team that enjoy diversity in personality and thought, and are a fun bunch that know how to enjoy our work. Based in Wellington and Christchurch offices, we have high integrity when dealing with the sensitive topics in our work and are encouraging of open dialogue, challenging ideas and shaking up our approaches.
