Ngā kawenga | About the role

The Department of Corrections supports men living in our care as they progress on their journey towards re-entering the community. Our responsibility is guided by our Hōkai Rangi strategy which seeks to build the rangatiratanga of each person through a supportive and humanising approach. We value providing manaakitanga to all people in our work including this key area of education.
The role includes undertaking education assessments, the development of learning plans, and working with men to progress along their personalised pathway. You will also support men to better engage in a variety of education programmes and activities to help them improve their skills and knowledge, improve their literacy and numeracy skills, work towards achieving New Zealand qualifications, and acquire job search skills.
You will be required to work effectively in a custodial environment - leading by example and maintaining professional boundaries. By interacting closely with key stakeholders, both internal and external, you will be collaborative in sharing information and ensuring outcomes beneficial to the successful progression of our offenders.
This role is based at Hawkes Bay Regional Prison.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Experience assessing and working with men who have not previously experienced educational success.
- A tertiary qualification and/or a qualification in adult education.
- Strong and accurate administrative skills.
- Sound knowledge of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
- Experience with embedding literacy and numeracy.
- Experience successfully engaging Māori, Pasifika, and at-risk youth in education.
- A strengths-based approach that embraces manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.

A full driver's licence is essential for this position. The preferred applicant will demonstrate exceptional communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to influence, inspire and motivate. Make a difference
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The mid point of the salary range is $70,273 and the full range (85%-120%) is $67,491 - $75,793. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
