**Policy Analyst (International Fisheries)**

**Salary Range**:General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experience

**About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga**

We are seeking a Policy Analyst to join MPI's International Fisheries team in the Trade & International Relations directorate which sits within the Policy & Trade business unit.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of international fisheries work. This includes New Zealand's participation in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Oceans and Fisheries Working Group. In addition, the role includes supporting New Zealand's Commissioner to the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation.

You will be responsible for coordinating New Zealand's regular bilateral fisheries dialogues with key countries. These dialogues are opportunities to engage on shared priorities and approaches to international fisheries issues and domestic management.

**About You - Mou**

This role will require you to navigate the interface between foreign policy, international law, fisheries policy and management, fisheries compliance, conservation and science. You will work closely with other MPI teams and other agencies, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Conservation.

An understanding of fisheries management and compliance, and relevant international law and institutions, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, is desirable.

We are looking for a team player with strong written and oral communication skills who will be able to forge collaborative relationships across the public sector and beyond.

**About the Team** - **Mo to matou Ropu**

The International Fisheries team leads engagement on international fisheries issues. The team works to maximise economic and other benefits to New Zealand from international fisheries, while protecting the environment, meeting international obligations and furthering New Zealand's international relationships. We do this through regional rule making; shaping multilateral frameworks; managing New Zealand's bilateral fisheries engagement; and ensuring policy coherence.
