Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People's role is to provide coherent, system-level leadership and advice that aligns priorities and focus across government to improve the lives of Disabled and Deaf people.

Whaikaha will be a standalone ministry from 01 December 2024, and this is an exciting time to join an organisation as it works through this transition.

Join our policy team to work on interesting and challenging policy issues, where you will be responsible for providing policy advice to help make New Zealand an inclusive and non-disabling society.

We have a busy work programme ahead, with opportunities to work on:

- the refresh of the New Zealand Disability Strategy
- implementing the Government's response to the recommendations made by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- leading and contributing to other cross-Government policy processes to improve outcomes for disabled people

We are committed to providing development opportunities to enable staff to grow and extend their skills, knowledge and experience.

We offer work that supports development across a broad range of policy competencies, and training opportunities that help us keep lifting the quality of our policy advice.

There may be opportunities to move between teams within the Ministry to help develop a broad range of skills and experience, and to support the flexible approach to the management of the work programme.

We are looking to fill the following roles:
Policy Analyst - Permanent
Senior Policy Analyst - Permanent
Policy analyst - fixed term ending 24 December 2025
Senior Policy Analyst - fixed term ending 24 December 2025

**Ko wai koe | About You**:
As either a policy analyst or senior policy analyst you will**:

- be an experienced policy professional with a strong understanding of the New Zealand government sector
- have or be ready to gain understanding of the diverse lived experiences of disabled people and use these to inform policy development processes
- enjoy working in an inclusive environment where different and new perspectives are valued.

As a senior policy analyst you will be:

- competent in navigating complex policy problems and making sense of complex systems
- competent navigating Cabinet and Ministerial decision-making processes
- confident supporting team members through collaboration, quality assurance and coaching.

To undertake this role successfully, you will either be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community.

You will have empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.

**Salary range**:
Analyst - $78,222 - $94,689
Senior Analyst - $112,372 - $136,429
