At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team
Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre
Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre sets the system-level learning for every child and student. Working between policy and customer facing functions, there is a significant political, stakeholder and public interest in the high performance of this group and the education curriculum and teaching workforce outcomes we seek for New Zealand.
The role of the Curriculum, Pathways & Progress group is to set the direction for what students learn, how they progress and how school leaders and teachers can achieve that for every child and student across school years 1 to 13. The group uses evidence and educational trends to design targeted solutions, resources, tools and services that lift educational achievement for all. The group co-designs and co‑develops innovative approaches to achieve policy intentions, plans successful implementation strategies and monitors to ensure a return on investment.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Senior Adviser supports the development of substantial and/or complex initiatives to support student achievement for all students. They lead the design of rich and responsive initiatives that focus on strengthening professional capability and leadership which helps students develop the competencies they need for study, work and life-long learning.

Mōhou ake | About you
We are looking for someone who has an understanding of professional capability development coupled with excellent analytical skills.
You will be able to work at pace and manage set tasks and projects, but you will also notice pressure points, take the initiative, and act. Your personal qualities will include taking pride in producing written work and other forms of communication of the highest quality every time and have a proven ability to get the job done. In this role you will be expected to have the kind of interpersonal savviness that means you relate well with all kinds of people.
To be successful in the role, you will need to have proven knowledge and ability to:

- Manage planning and reporting cycles and requirements within government.
- Convey abstract and/or complex ideas in clear, practical and concrete terms, tailored for the audience
- Independently lead pieces of work
- Demonstrate well developed problem solving and analytical skills, with an ability to work co-operatively with others to solve problems or complete tasks.
