Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
This is an exciting time to join the Food Risk Management directorate as we are recruiting for several new roles to support the enhancement and strengthening of New Zealand's imported food regulatory system. The volume and range of food imported into New Zealand continues to increase each year, with products coming from more diverse markets.
We are a dedicated, professional and passionate team, who are committed to improving how the New Zealand food safety system manages imported food. Our multiyear plan is focused on enhancing our system to improve importer's performance, modernise our imported food safety rules, and help consumers trust that imported foods are safe.
You will encounter exciting opportunities that will provide you the platform to interact with food businesses, industry representatives and regulatory agencies, as you contribute to this vital work enhancing our imported foods system. You may also work across other work programmes in the directorate, as relevant to your skills and experience.
Mōu - About You
We are looking to appoint an Adviser or Senior Adviser who has excellent analytical and communication skills, and an ability to work collaboratively across teams.
**We are also looking for someone who**:

- Has good working knowledge and experience in the identification and management of food safety risks.
- Is skilled at gathering and analysing data, and reporting on key findings.
- Is flexible and able to quickly adapt to new and unexpected challenges that may arise
- Can effectively engage with people from different walks of life and consider issues from different perspectives.

In addition, to be appointed at a senior level you will have the following capabilities and experience:

- Able to objectively consider issues from different perspectives, quickly understand the nature of problems and identify a range of potential solutions.
- Have proven experience leading projects or work programmes.
- Able to work with complex systems involving multiple legislation and teams, understand how different aspects of the food system fit together, and conceptualise new ideas and alternative approaches.
- Have experience engaging with regulators, various food industry sectors and consumers.

Desirable but not essential skills /experience for these roles:

- Understanding of New Zealand's food regulatory framework and how food legislation works.
- Experience in engaging with other New Zealand and international food agencies and organisations.
- Understanding of New Zealand's obligations as a member of the World Trade Organization, and Codex Alimentarius Commission.
- Understanding of the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement between New Zealand and Australia.
- Understanding of the development and implementation of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point s(HACCP)-based food control systems
