At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua _(Central)_ is a frontline group. Our frontline groups will collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice, and regulation functions for schools and early learning services.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua _(Central)_ Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.

Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by:

- Providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry's practice framework, He Pikorua, and the guiding principles, strands and goals of Te Whāriki: Early Childhood Curriculum and Te Whāriki a te Kohanga Reo.
- Supporting transition points in the child's learning pathway such as transition into early childhood and to school as required.
- Building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support the learning of children.
- Assessing, collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of individual (or group) intervention plans.
- Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child's needs are complex.

Mōhou ake | About you

To be successful you will need:

- A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood).
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position.
- A minimum of three years' teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
- An understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes.
- The ability to develop and interact effectively with people of other cultures focusing on relationship and recognising their identity, language and culture as a source of strength.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with ākonga (learners), whānau (families) and kaiako (teachers) across a diverse range of settings.
- A full driver licence.
