Winter - Snow School Team Leader

The Whakapapa whānau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.

We are seeking an experienced leader with a passion for snow sports and the ability to create a positive team culture and drive team performance.

As the Snow School Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the success of our Snow School in Winter 2025.

In this exciting and hands-on role, you will:

- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing Snow School team of passionate instructors, fostering a culture of inspiration and excellence in snow sports.
- Lead a team of supervisors and coordinators, ensuring the Snow School runs smoothly, efficiently, and aligns with business goals and operational targets.
- Collaborate across departments on day-today operations and drive initiatives that elevate the guest experience and their passion for the snow sports industry.

This is a full-time seasonal position (June to October), with 30+ hours per week (Monday to Sunday).

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- A minimum of Level 2 NZSIA (or equivalent international certification), with dual certification (skiing and snowboarding) preferred
- Sports Science, Personal Training or other relevant qualifications/ certifications desired
- Strong experience in the Snow Sports industry, particularly within the instructor space.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team, including recruitment, training, development, and rostering.
- Proficiency in administrative tasks, including scheduling, reporting, and communication, with strong skills in Microsoft Office.
- A solid understanding of business operations, with the ability to drive performance and achieve measurable results.
- A comprehensive understanding of health and safety standards, compliance with policies, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve conflicts in a professional manner, ensuring a positive and productive work culture.

$31-$35 per hour depending on experience and qualification. This will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
