About the role

Mt Roskill Grammar School is seeking an experienced Careers advisor to join our dynamic team. This 25 hour per week part-time role, will play a crucial part in supporting students as they navigate their career and educational pathways.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing one-on-one career guidance and advice to students, helping them explore strengths, values, interests, and opportunities.
  • Support students with subject and course selection in line with their identified pathways, including tertiary entry requirements and Vocational Pathways.
  • Coordinate and advise on tertiary open days, taster programmes, scholarship opportunities, and work exploration events.
  • Provide targeted transition support for at-risk students in collaboration with Deans, RTLB, and external agencies.
  • Assist with the creation of individualised career action plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with whānau
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with businesses,
  • Providing administrative support, such as managing student records and maintaining accurate career-related data

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a careers advisory or student support role
  • Strong understanding of the New Zealand education and training landscape, including entry requirements and pathways for various careers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and provide empathetic support to students
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources, and the ability to interpret and translate findings for students
  • A passion for supporting young people in their personal and professional development
