**To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions**: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms.

About the role
Through the Firearms Registry, we are strengthening how we manage firearms and other arms items in New Zealand. All firearms licence holders are now required to register arms items in their possession through digital or non-digital channels.
As an Arms Officer - Registry you will play a vital role in improving public safety by ensuring that lawfully obtained firearms and arms items are properly registered to prevent them falling into the wrong hands, reducing the risk of ordinary New Zealanders from becoming a victim of a firearms offence. The overarching remit of an Arms Officer - Registry will be to develop a sound working knowledge of the Arms Act 1983, and to support the registration, safe custody, and safe use of firearms within New Zealand, while supporting other business processes within the wider Firearms Safety Authority.

Based in Auckland, this position encompasses digital and non-digital responsibilities, and requires a strong customer service ethic.

**Key Deliverables**:
Provide real time support to Arms Administrators with knowledge of firearms and legislation, as well as process and system support.
Make and receive calls in relation to; the Arms Act and Arms Regulations, dealing with and providing advice to members of the firearms community, public and with internal customers.
Validate and enter modifications, prohibitions, and cancellations in the firearms system.
Ensure all firearms records are correctly maintained and updated as required (sales or transfer, destruction, or other disposal).
Our business hours are Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1700 hrs. Some flexibility between these hours will be required with rotational shifts from 0800 to 1600, and 0900 to 1700.
Due to the nature of the work, this position is an office-based role, and a work from home option is not available.

We as the firearms regulator, collaborate closely with both the Ministry of Justice and NZ Police. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for policy advice and system oversight and NZ Police is responsible for law enforcement function.

Special requirements
Knowledge and experience in the use of firearms would be beneficial.
Whilst not essential, a working knowledge of the Arms Act 1983 and associated legislation, or previous experience in another legislative environment, would be beneficial.
Critical thinking and sound judgement.
Experience working in a risk-based regulatory environment.
