**The role**:
- Give expert clinical advice to the Mortality Review Management Team, He Mutunga Kore, the National Mortality Committee and other key stakeholder groups
- Champion best practice, working with experts and health professionals to develop and test mortality surveillance tools
- Co-design data analysis products with the Health Quality and Intelligence team.
- Partner with the Engagement and Impact team to turn evidence into clear, practical activities that lower avoidable deaths
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the Commission and wider health sector - ensuring recommendations are realistic and implemented by services
- Draft policy briefings, board reports, speeches and responses to Ministerial, media or public enquiries
- Support the design of the Mortality Review work programme, ensuring that recommendations are connected across each workstream and represent the lived experience of Whanau.
- Ensure all work reflects Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety and anti-racism principles
**About you**:
- Registered clinician or tertiary-qualified in health quality, with clinical research or health policy related expertise. You will have an eye for detail with the ability to peer review and write from a clinical point of view and is comfortable with tailoring the material to communicate the key messages to suit different audiences.
- Strong writing, research, negotiation and presentation skills
- Skilled at breaking down complex clinical issues into clear and accessible terminologies
- whether you're talking to senior leaders, frontline staff or the public
- Deep understanding of how health inequities have developed in Aotearoa and what makes a difference
- Proven ability to work alongside health sector professionals, mortality advisors and quality-improvement teams
- Excellent at juggling priorities, using sound judgment and maintaining high integrity
- Digitally confident with Microsoft Office and Teams
- An understanding of the Mortality Review Function would be preferred
