**Mō te Tūranga | About the role**:
As a **Principal Engineer**, you'll tackle some of ASB's most complex engineering challenges and design solutions that uplift our entire Engineering Practice. You'll play a key role in our **data platform modernisation journey**, enabling innovative capabilities with **AI**.

This role is about more than just technical expertise — you'll build trust with technical and non-technical leaders, maintain momentum, and remove roadblocks to deliver meaningful business outcomes.

You'll be part of a tight-knit, autonomous, multi-disciplinary team of Principal Engineers driving engineering excellence across ASB. We work in agile ways and continuously grow our skills to improve outcomes for our customers.

**Ō Pūkenga | About you**:
**You'll bring**:

- Proven experience as an **Engineering Leader or Architect** in a modern tech environment at scale
- Deep expertise in **cloud data platforms and tooling** — e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, dbt
- Experience with **event streaming** (Apache Kafka or Confluent Cloud), **containerisation**, **APIs**, and **CI/CD** for data workloads
- Advanced knowledge of **AI tooling and trends** — e.g. generative AI, MLOps, agentic AI
- Strong understanding of **public cloud platforms** (Azure or AWS), including **security and governance** in large organisations
- Excellent **interpersonal skills** — able to build trust and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to **switch context quickly**, learn fast, and take people on the journey
