Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We're looking for a Principal Engineer who loves solving big challenges and making a real impact. In this role, you'll help shape the future of our engineering practice and deliver solutions that make life easier for our customers and our people. You'll combine technical know-how with strong collaboration skills to keep things moving and make sure we get the right outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead complex projects Work on enterprise-scale initiatives that connect our strategic systems and lift our engineering capability.
• Drive transformation Play a key part in ASB's Core transformation journey, designing solutions that are built to last.
• Bring people together Build trust with technical and non-technical leaders, keep momentum, and clear roadblocks so we can deliver great results.
• Champion agile ways of working Support teams to work autonomously and keep learning, so we can keep improving for our customers.
• Stay hands-on Get involved in challenging, high-impact work alongside a talented team of Principal Engineers who set the standard for engineering excellence.

Ngā Pūkenga | About You
We're looking for someone who brings initiative, problem-solving skills, and a track record of leading from the front. You'll work closely with other technology leaders and stakeholders, championing engineering and helping shape our public cloud transformation journey.

What We're Looking For

• Proven leadership in engineering Experience as an Engineering Leader or Architect in a modern, large-scale tech environment.
• Deep technical expertise Strong knowledge of .NET, APIs, and event streaming technologies, plus experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, containerisation, Kubernetes, and CI/CD for managing application workloads.
• Integration know-how Previous experience with SAP and durable task execution frameworks like Azure Durable Functions or Temporal is a bonus.
• Cloud capability Expert understanding of public cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, including security and governance for enterprise environments.
• Great people skills Ability to build strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Adaptability and curiosity Comfortable switching contexts, learning fast, building trust, and bringing people along on the journey.
