Taupo, New Zealand Waikato Regional Council Full time

We want more good people to come and do great things with us.

We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.

Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.

We currently have a Summer Student role available based in the heart of the North Island - Great Lake Taupō. This exciting role (based in our Taupō office) will assist Council staff with site-based restoration management plans (including those with high value Mātauranga Māori habitats) on properties in the Upper Waikato region and Te Arawa River Iwi Trust rohe.

We are looking for someone who is working toward or recently completed a degree in natural, physical or environmental sciences or related discipline. An understanding of Te Ao Māori world view, associated values and principles is desirable.

We need someone who enjoys working outdoors for part of the time, has problem solving skills and is experienced in using Word and Excel but also has great people skills. You will need to build and maintain relationships with landowners, stake holders, iwi and catchment staff.

An affiliation or association with Te Arawa River Iwi Trust is desirable, but not necessary.

Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
