Auckland City, New Zealand Financial Markets Authority Full time

**A great place to work. With great work to do.**

Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki (caretakers) of the financial services in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.

**Te Tūranga | The Role**

Our Market Infrastructure team promotes and facilitates the integrity of, and confident participation in, the capital markets ecosystem. We ensure that key infrastructure providers — from designated clearing and settlement systems to financial product market operators — are fit for purpose and meeting their obligations.

As a Senior Adviser, you'll tackle a wide range of interesting and important work. You'll think strategically about the big picture while also understanding what's happening at the market operator level. From setting licensing guidance and expectations, to developing assurance programmes, monitoring compliance, and responding to regulatory changes — no two days are the same.

Our work covers a diverse range of complex and sometimes novel issues, all contributing to the resilience and confidence of New Zealand's key market infrastructures.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Monitoring licensed market operators, conducting and publishing reviews of how well they comply with their obligations, and assessing rule change requests — for example, our reviews of NZX as New Zealand's largest market operator with our most recent review **here**:

- Jointly monitoring designated **financial market infrastructures** (clearing and settlement) systems with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), including implementing new risk-based framework and monitoring programme
- In continuing to implementing the new Financial Markets Infrastructure regime, test and enhance our joint supervision approach and frameworks and identify and assess potential new designations
- Licensing Administrators of **financial benchmarks**, and developing monitoring frameworks and programme
- Continual testing and enhancing of our frameworks, protocols and processes to ensure regulatory oversight and burden is proportionate to risk and harms and aligns with the FMA's Outcomes-focused approach which can be found **here**

**He kōrero mōu | About you**

You'll be naturally curious, technically adept, and bring a solid understanding of laws and regulations relevant to the financial sector. You might be an experienced regulator or lawyer, or have developed and implemented assurance or compliance monitoring frameworks.

The transferable skills that will help you thrive in this stimulating and varied role include:

- The ability to quickly grasp new information and processes
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing abilities
- A genuine passion for ensuring that key market infrastructure providers are fit for purpose

You're not expected to have 100% of these skills. At FMA a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we'd love to hear from you.

**Ngā painga | What we offer**

We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.

At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
