Manager, Internal Governance

**A great place to work. With great work to do.**
Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki (caretakers) of the financial services in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.
**Te Tūranga | The role**
Our Internal Governance team plays a vital role in how the FMA operates - helping our people navigate obligations and ensuring we act with integrity and accountability. We enable visibility and assurance to support informed, effective governance.
As **Manager, Internal Governance**, you'll lead the development and continuous improvement of the FMA's governance frameworks. This pivotal leadership role will shape how we work - embedding governance practices that drive sound decision-making, accountability, and alignment with our strategic objectives. You'll work across the organisation to ensure governance is not just policy, but a lived practice that supports performance, transparency, and trust.
Combining strategic influence with operational delivery, you'll assess and evolve our governance service model, identifying improvements and designing an integrated approach that delivers value and lifts our governance maturity. Leading a small team, you'll collaborate with senior leaders, governance forums, and assurance functions to ensure arrangements are effective and fit for purpose.
You'll also strengthen the integration of governance with risk, performance, evaluation, and strategic planning. Building governance capability through guidance, training, and engagement will be key to your impact, along with monitoring compliance and supporting assurance activities to keep our governance strong and outcome-focused.
**He kōrero mōu | About you**
You're a confident people leader who knows how to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You understand the importance of governance in enabling good decision-making, managing risk, and supporting organisational integrity.
You'll bring many of the following:
- ** Leadership and collaboration** - empowering your team and working seamlessly across risk, governance and strategy functions.
- ** Stakeholder engagement** - building trusted relationships at all levels across the organisation.
- ** Prioritisation and decision-making** - focusing limited resources where they make the biggest impact.
- ** Resilience and agility** - thriving in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
- ** Change and systems thinking** - managing increased demand and driving improvements to how we work.
Your day will involve working with the Official Information Act, the Privacy Act, Financial Markets Conduct Act, and contractual best practice. Knowledge of these and other governance requirements is essential.
At the FMA, a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture - if you have most of what we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
**Ngā painga | What we offer**
We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.
At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
