80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)

An opportunity has arisen within Te Wāhanga Hauora Māori (The Māori Health Service) at Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora ki Te Matau a Māui, Hawke’s Bay as a Kaitakawaenga (Māori Cultural Advisor) working within the Wairoa Health Centre.

The successful applicant will be required to work Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm providing the following:

- Supporting Māori patients in their health journey and can bring Tikanga and Māori models of care to the fore.
- Cultural and health literacy support to Māori patients.
- Support Māori patients and their travelling to Wairoa Health Centre, Hastings Hospital, and/or other services and districts to ensure their treatment is of a high quality.

The role will give the successful applicant the ability to work within a Māori kaupapa focussed service providing unfaltering support for tangata whaiora.

There will be a need to work independently as well as within a team, have excellent communication skills, have good time management, have a reasonably good knowledge base in health and have a good understanding of the local Māori community.

A registered Social Worker who has worked within a hospital setting would be a great advantage.

A reasonably good knowledge of te reo Maori and Kahungunutanga would also be an advantage.
