This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a permanent Charge Nurse Manager role to lead the team at Ngā Kākano, Child Adolescent & Family Inpatient Unit and the CAF Day Program.
Ngā Kākano is a 16-bed regional unit which covers the South Island and works with people under the age of 18 with mental health problems. We have a strong focus on working with tamariki, rangatahi, and their family/whānau. You will be part of a dedicated, collaborative and cohesive multi-disciplinary team; and will contribute to this challenging yet rewarding work.
This is an exciting time to be joining the team as we have moved into a new purpose built, state-of-the-art facility based at Hillmorton Hospital - the new facility is a game-changer, that compliments contemporary care and integrated treatment pathways for young people.
In this role you will be leading a large diverse interdisciplinary team of nursing and allied health professionals including two Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registered and Enrolled Nurses and a dedicated Pukenga Atawhai and Lived experience team members. You will also have the opportunity to develop strong collaborative relationships with our Regional partners. We are a supportive and dynamic team that strives to make a real difference; discovering and developing the strengths of our tamariki, rangatahi and supporting their families/whānau.
This key position involves managing the operational and daily clinical functions of a busy clinical inpatient unit and Day Program working in collaboration with CAF Community and Outreach teams, other inpatient services and multi-disciplinary teams across Specialist Mental Health Services.
In this role, you will also be responsible for:
- Co ordinating the cohesive functioning of the team to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care of tāngata whai ora through developing and managing care systems that are tangata centred and ensure the Te Whare Tapa Whā model of care is embedded.
- Ensuring quality standards in the care of tāngata whai ora to provide effective assessment, treatment planning, treatment interventions and evaluation of the care delivered.
- Recruitment of staff, nursing, allied health and administration, while developing and supporting a positive team culture, where care provided is collaborative, inclusive, and multi-disciplinary.
- You will provide day to day clinical and operational leadership, ensuring high quality standards of tāngata whai ora care, and the effective management of resources and the unit environment.
**About You**
To be successful in this role you with be a Senior Registered Nurse with a Mental Health scope of practice. Ideally you will have recent experience working within a clinical leadership role within Mental Health and you will have excellent clinical skills, as well as an ability to ensure financial and operational objectives are carried out in line with the vision of Te Whatu Ora.
You will be a natural leader and therefore you will be an expert at developing and extending nursing practice, carrying out performance appraisals, auditing, quality improvement initiatives and providing overall clinical expertise. An expert in your field, you will further promote a high standard of consistent professional nursing practice that is contemporary, and tāngata whai ora focused.
**Skills and experience**
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope of practice
- Experience working within Mental Health
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience including experience in the recruitment of staff
- Have a relevant post graduate qualification, or be on the pathway to securing one
- Possess a depth of clinical nursing knowledge and leadership ability
- Positive, self-motivated, flexible and solutions-focused mindset and experience in supporting change processes
- Excel in communication and relationship building
- Impeccable time-management skills and a strong process-oriented mindset
- A compassionate leader who fosters a supportive and inclusive team environment
- Exceptional communication and relationship building skills, across all disciplines and a variety of teams (i.e. community teams / other impatient units)
- Good knowledge and support for the integration of Tikanga Maori within Ngā Kākano.
