Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, Forensic Intellectual
Disability (ID) Unit is on a continuous journey of innovation and evolution of
delivering the best possible care to our tāngata Whaikaha (consumers). Here, we
are focusing on long-term rehabilitation of our tāngata whaikaha to discover
and develop their strengths towards optimum health and potential placement back
into a residential setting.
Our new wing provides a more individualised environment for
our tāngata whaikaha that would closer mimic a community sense of living which
aligns well with our positive behaviour support model of care. Our
multidisciplinary team work with a person centred focus to deliver better
outcomes and experiences to our tāngata whaikaha and their whanau.
We are looking for an Associate Charge Nurse Manager
with intellectual disability/mental health experience who shares a passion
and interest in the Forensic Intellectual Disability setting and can provide
leadership and support to our dedicated team.

In this professional and clinical leadership role, you will
effectively contribute to the ongoing development of nursing practice and the
professional nursing workforce within the service. The role has a function that
is both clinical and operational, therefore you will have excellent clinical
credibility as well as an ability to ensure the operational objectives are
carried out in line with the Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury's vision.
The core function of the role is to assist and support the
Charge Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist in ensuring professional
standards of nursing are upheld and practiced within the ward
environment.
- Within the ward
environment, the ACNM is tasked with rostering and staff allocation,
coordinate staffing and nursing care, as well as being the direct point of
contact for staff requiring clinical guidance and provide direction in
service processes.
- While this role does not
involve managing or overseeing a budget, you will work closely with the
Charge Nurse Manager on any activity that could be affecting budgets (e.g.
reports on overtime).
- With your proven ability
to lead, you will be an expert at developing and extending nursing
practice, assisting the clinical leadership team with performance
appraisals, auditing, and quality improvement. As such, you will strive to
ensure the overall provision of quality nursing care for consumers.
- As a positive role
model, you will be highly motivated with excellent communication skills

- Have or be working
towards a relevant post graduate qualification.
- Minimum of five years
Mental Health Nursing experience.
- Have an extensive
background in mental health and intellectual disability nursing.
- Demonstrate experience
in managing and overseeing workloads in a busy clinical
environments.
- Be a Registered Nurse
with previous mental health and intellectual disability experience, and
current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) with the Intellectual
Disability and/or Mental Health Scope.
- Be compassionate and
empathetic clinical professional while having a clear understanding of
- Have strong
interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Have an ability to adapt
to a constantly changing environment, tāngata whaiora and their behaviour.
- Have an ability to work
within multi-disciplinary team, providing clear instructions and
