**THE ROLE**:
In this role you will be responsible for digital innovation and back-end development across the NZ Herald functionality and feature upgrades. You will be a team player who is solutions focused and loves a good challenge. You will be responsible for the development of features for new and existing procedures and provide technical expertise and recommendations to your team. You will work with a variety of stakeholders to support current platforms and manage issue resolution with third parties, assess new platforms, tools and integrations.

This role can be based anywhere in New Zealand, with opportunities to meet up in our offices with other team members.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

Review and influence ongoing design, standards and methods of our engineering process
- Research and be aware of other technologies, frameworks and hardware which could assist to achieve business goals.
- Manage the development process within the go-to-market and development frameworks (inceptions to completion).
- Ensure high quality through unit testing, standards and other quality measures.
- Create appropriate documentation to facilitate future enhancement and support of software code.

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- A relevant Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science degree
- 5+ years Python
- 5+ years working with relational databases
- Good working knowledge of SOA and RESTful APIs
- Fluent in Git version control
- Good experience working in Linux-based development environments
- Good hands-on knowledge of Docker and Docker Compose
- Experience working in Agile Scrum teams
- Ability to design solutions and solve complex problems
- Excellent communicator

**Other Preferred Skills**:

- Experience with CI/CD
- Experience with Django

**Intermediate Backend Role**
**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- A relevant Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science degree
- 2+ years Python Django
- 2+ years working with relational databases
- Experience with Git version control
- Understanding of RESTful APIs
- Experience working in Linux-based development environments
- Knowledge of Docker
- Experience working in development teams
- Excellent communicator
