We’re looking for an accomplished Corporate People & Capability Director to lead our Group-wide people and culture strategy across New Zealand and Australia.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how Tonkin + Taylor attracts, develops, and retains great people. You’ll work with leadership to strengthen the People & Capability functions across our operating companies, building a cohesive, values-led approach that enables our people to perform and thrive.
You’ll lead a small team of direct reports and work in close partnership with other senior P&C leaders across the operating businesses, ensuring alignment and delivering high-quality, fit for purpose people practices.
** Ngā kawenga | What you’ll be doing**
You’ll be responsible for:
- Shaping and implementing the Group-wide People & Capability strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and future workforce needs.
- Advising the COO, Group Leadership Team and Board on people strategy, workforce risk, remuneration and organisational performance.
- Leading strategic initiatives in remuneration, reward, employment relations, organisational design, and workforce transformation.
- Overseeing the governance, policy, and risk frameworks that ensure fair, consistent people practices across operating companies and regions.
- Advancing leadership, talent, and capability development programmes that enable our people to perform at their best.
- Promoting a culture of inclusion, wellbeing, and engagement that reflects our values and supports collaboration across the Group.
- Driving the development of robust People systems, data, and analytics that support confident, evidence-based decisions.
- Championing change initiatives that build agility, innovation, and future-readiness within the business.
**Na tōu rourou | What you’ll bring**
- Extensive senior People & Culture leadership experience across complex, multi-entity environments.
- Proven track record in designing and leading enterprise-wide people strategies that drive performance, alignment, and engagement.
- Experience partnering with Boards, COOs, and senior executives, providing trusted, strategic advice.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand and Australian employment law, HR governance frameworks, and remuneration practices.
- Commercial and financial acumen with the ability to connect people decisions to business outcomes.
- Experience in professional services, engineering, technical, or consulting sectors preferred.
- A collaborative, values-led approach and the ability to lead through complexity and change with clarity and empathy.
