Campus Life’s purpose is to create a vibrant, engaging and supportive campus experience. We offer a range of wellbeing services (accommodation, health, counselling) that help students overcome personal barriers to success. We also offer a growing range of student engagement services (transition programmes, events, club support, sport and recreation, leadership and volunteering programmes) that help students develop a sense of belonging, build friendships and engage in co-curricular activities that complement their academic development.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the Campus Life leadership team**as**Associate Director Student Engagement & Equity.**

**The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi**

The **Associate Director Student Engagement & Equity**is pivotal to creating an engaging student experience and a safe, inclusive and equitable environment at the University of Auckland. It oversees a range of student engagement services and activities, including transition & orientation programmes, support services for student groups, student engagement events and extracurricular recognition and volunteering programmes.

The role also leads the development and oversight of student equity initiatives and plays a key role in student equity strategies and policy to widen participation of students from equity groups and support their academic success in university study.

Some key responsibilities include:

- ** Team Leadership -**Provide leadership, mentoring and direction for staff members and encourage behaviours aligned to the development and maintenance of a culture that is inclusive, flexible and encourages excellence.
- ** Engagement -**Build and maintain relationships with leaders across the University to ensure ‘buy in’ and that initiatives are supported.
- ** Strategy -**Develop key insights into the student experience and contribute to the achievement of Campus Life’s strategic and annual planning.
- ** Operational**:

- Develop and implement KPIs and reporting (in line with central service divisions’ KPIs) that provide operational reporting and supports strategic decision making. Also, oversee financial management and governance/compliance guidelines.
- ** Continuous Improvement** - Leverage stakeholder feedback to enhance programme effectiveness and engagement.
- ** Health & Safety -**Responsible for the communication and implementation of health and safety strategy, initiatives, policies and procedures, and relevant training and development of managers, staff and contractors within department.

We are looking for people that are passionate about the student experience and can demonstrate experience in leadership roles with responsibility for improving levels of student engagement and belonging.

With proven leadership skills, you will value contributions from a variety of sources and be able to inspire and motivate your team and other key stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of effective strategies for increasing student engagement and belonging in universities.
- Strong understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and approaches, preferably in a tertiary education environment.
- Demonstrated experience producing high quality written documentation including reports, publications and/or presentations.
- High levels of data literacy and proven ability to use data to inform service design and improvement. Strong organisational skills and an ability to efficiently deliver services at scale, in a large and complex organisation.
