An exciting
opportunity for a professional, highly motivated Scientific Officer to join the
Specialist Services, Endocrinology and Steroid Chemistry Section at Canterbury
This is a
permanent, full time position in a busy laboratory that provides diagnostic and
research testing nationally and internationally. The vacancy is for 40 hours
per week and is suitable for a Scientific
Officer, Healthcare Scientist or Higher Specialist Scientist. An MSc or PhD qualification in Biochemistry,
Endocrinology, Steroid Chemistry or relevant discipline is essential.
The Endocrinology
and Steroid Chemistry Section offers an extensive portfolio of tests for a wide
differentiation disorders and
other endocrine disorders. The
laboratory is well equipped with the latest technology and has established
national and international research collaborations.
The primary
function of this role is collaborating with the section and other scientific
officers to lead the further expansion of Mass Spectrometry with relation to
endocrine disorders. Ideally, you will
have the expertise and skills to perform a range of tests on Mass Spectrometry
and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) platforms, however it is
anticipated that the individual may need to build capability over time to fully
manage this portfolio.
You will be
registered (or eligible for registration) as an MLS with the New Zealand
Medical Sciences Council. You will be competent in method development, documentation and
translation to clinical practice and have experience with technical
troubleshooting of analytical platforms, as this is a core component of day to
day operations.

You will be a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills
and able to work as part of a team as well as independently. In
addition, you will be organised and efficient with effective time management
skills.
