Middlemore is the largest hospital operated by Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand. We offer secondary-level (hospital and specialist) care and a selected range of community and domiciliary services for the population of Counties Manukau - the area that stretches from Otahuhu to Port Waikato.

**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

To assist with the development of a supportive, safe and culturally appropriate BreastScreen experience for priority women, specifically Maaori and Pacific women in Counties Manukau. This role has been established to implement a beautiful korowai project to help address known barriers to BreastScreen. The successful applicant may also support other projects aimed at addressing inequalities in access to screening. The Beautiful Korowai project is based on the Beautiful Shawl Project developed in Victoria, Australia to reduce barriers to breast screening.

The role will include consulting and working with the Counties Manukau District’s Maaori and Pacific teams and local communities to gather input into the project and korowai designs and then to arrange for the production of the korowai. Designing an evaluation process to capture feedback from clients and staff will also be part of the role.

The project lead may also support other equity strategies within BreastScreen Counties Manukau such as providing information or training to partner organisations to increase their knowledge of BreastScreen or within the service to increase cultural competency.

- Relevant qualification in health promotion, public health, or equivalent
- Project management experience
- Experience working with Maaori and Pacific communities
- Cultural awareness - understanding of Tikanga and Maaori protocols
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full, clean NZ drivers licence
