**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
- Supporting the Regional Harbourmaster in managing the technical requirements and regulations administered by the Maritime Services team.
- Collecting and analysing intelligence on compliance issues to inform the compliance strategy, involving on-water regulations, investigating incidents, and writing detailed reports.
- Leading the Maritime Services operational team to cover leave when required.
- Leading projects, and strategic compliance planning.
- Ensuring WRC compliance with Maritime regulations in managing our vessel fleet.
- Holding or ability to obtain an NZ vessel operator qualification (SRL).
**Mō te tangata | About you**
- A high level of leadership experience.
- A strong background with New Zealand’s maritime regulatory requirements.
- Ideally able to demonstrate a strategic and tactical response to non-compliance in a regulatory setting.
- A background or strong interest in Recreational boating and Navigation Safety legislation.
- Methodical, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Highly effective organisational skills including time management, prioritising and forward-planning skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and a high level of computer literacy.
- Available for work over busy boating periods such as public holidays and weekends.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- Proven experience in a role of leadership, training, business planning and/or project management.
- Experienced in New Zealand commercial vessel management and the Maritime Operator Safety System (MOSS).
- Extensive experience in regulatory investigations, compliance and enforcement.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal. Able to demonstrate effective communication to varying audiences including experience in public speaking.
- Strategic and tactical thinking skills, ideally able to demonstrate strategic response to non-compliance in a regulatory setting.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others.
- Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including cultural sensitivity).
- Can demonstrate a high level of commitment to health and safety in the workplace for self and others.
- Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- A high level of computer literacy.

- Reporting to the Regional Harbourmaster and based in Hamilton.
- The Maritime team consists of the Regional Harbourmaster, 2x Deputy Regional Harbourmaster’s, 5 x Maritime Officers, Business Support Specialist, Moorings Officer, and Marketing and Projects Advisor.
