Wellington City, New Zealand People&Co Full time

**Permanent, Wellington**:

- A pivotal senior leadership role
- Requiring an experienced, inspirational, purpose driven leader
- Help transform and shape the future of this reputable, forward thinking for purpose organisation

Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) sends skilled Kiwis on volunteer assignments to the wider Pacific and beyond to share their experience and knowledge directly with local people and communities. Working together with our regional neighbours, VSA volunteers create new opportunities for people that will ripple across communities for generations to come.

VSA manages a range of development programmes in partnership with in-country partners, regional and United Nations partners, and New Zealand partners, including Non-Government Organisations, as well as the private and public sectors. The Director Stakeholder Engagement drives the focus and vision through the Stakeholder Engagement Team, which has an integrated approach to development and works closely with all teams across VSA.

This critical role within VSA has responsibility for providing leadership across the organisation’s Stakeholder Engagement group, which includes four main areas of work; communications and marketing (including events), partnership development, fundraising and wider engagement. It will work collaboratively with the Chief Executive and other senior leadership team members to provide strategic and operational leadership for its portfolio contributing to the overall growth and development of their organisation.

Aspects of this role will include:

- Leading, inspiring and growing a team of eight professionals across the functions of communications and marketing, fundraising, business development, and Pacific partnerships
- Providing strategic leadership across the portfolio
- Championing and leading a strategic approach to engagement, across all groups with a specific focus with Pacific peoples and Pacific-led organisations within Aotearoa
- Advising the CEO on all matters around stakeholder engagement
- Providing strategic thought leadership and direction for maximising existing partners and securing new partnership opportunities
- Bringing innovative new ideas for new programmes of work and strategies focused on volunteering for development
- Actively contributing at Board level

The right person for this expansive leadership role will be a fresh, inspirational leader who can think and deliver on the bigger picture. They will offer:

- Proven senior leadership experience
- Experience managing and leading a broad portfolio (expertise across all four areas of this portfolio is not critical, however it is anticipated this person will offer a senior level of experience within engagement, fundraising, communications, and marketing)
- Strategic relationship management skills with success developing key partnerships and business opportunities
- An understanding and commitment to business development
- People leadership skills
- A growth mindset
- A true understanding and appreciation for bi and multi-culturalism. Previous experience working within Pacific communities would be a definite advantage.

With this year marking VSA’s 60th year anniversary, now is the time to come on board to help plan, celebrate success and become a part of their future. This role is based in VSA’s Wellington office.

The role will require travel from time to time, with potential to travel to the Pacific. Keeping communities safe is paramount to VSA. You will need to obtain a full Covid-19 vaccination, and complete pre-departure tests prior to travel.
