**_About our team/Mō te tīma_**
The Department of Pathology is one of eight departments within the Dunedin School of Medicine, Division of Health Sciences. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical and health science student teaching and supervision of postgraduate research students. The Department houses several internationally-recognised research groups.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations and mātauraka Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. Our relationship with Ngāi Tahu as mana whenua within their takiwā of Te Waipounamu and, through this, as the University’s principal Treaty partner is especially important.
**_The role/Te mahi_**
As the Teaching Laboratory Technician (Pathology), you will ensure the smooth operation of all undergraduate practical sessions in the laboratory.
In this role you will work closely with academic staff to prepare and organise all material required for practical classes, including preparation of histological material, cell cultures and other material as required.
You will conduct trial runs of laboratory classes, to ensure they work and to identify problems.
In addition, you will support ordering and maintaining stock levels for all consumables and small items of equipment required for practical sessions.
**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- BSc, PGDip MLSc, MMLSc or MSc, or relevant research/teaching laboratory experience (essential).
- Previous experience in an undergraduate teaching laboratory (desirable).
- Working knowledge of basic experimental techniques.
- Initiative and an innovative approach to problem solving.
- An understanding of the issues related to working with human and animal material.
- Meticulous record keeping experience.
- A commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tahu, who are mana whenua in the region.
As this is role involves collaborative work, you are expected to have well-developed interpersonal communication skills.

This is a part time (0.5 FTE), permanent, academic year only position.
