Chief Information Officer

**Lead NZQA's digital future.**
**Shape strategy, governance, and innovation across the education sector.**
We are seeking a dynamic, 'sleeves-rolled-up' and action-oriented **Chief Information Officer (CIO)** to lead our Information Services function. This strategic role will deliver high-performing, secure, and future-focused IT solutions that support NZQA's strategy.
This role needs to work collaboratively with other digital roles across NZQA to drive our digital and data roadmaps. This is a key Tier-3 role at NZQA; you will be joining NZQA at a time when there are exciting changes happening within the organisation and the wider sector. The CIO will be a key contributor and thought leader amongst others to lead and support some of these changes.
This is a role that requires you to 'own the problem' and think about holistic ways of supporting business, even outside of the IS space. There may be occasions when you need to be in 'hot pursuit' of issues or opportunities instead of waiting for them to play out.
This is not a traditional sit behind the desk role. We are seeking a dynamic CIO who influences at top tables, supports the development of your direct reports, has courageous conversations with vendors and when needed can also roll-up their sleeves to help a developer, a tester, a BA, security and data staff or an architect - both in technical or development conversations.
**Mo tenei turanga | About the role**
As CIO, you will:
- **Shape and execute NZQA's IT strategy**, aligning with government and education sector digital priorities.
- **Lead enterprise-wide governance** for technology, security, privacy, and information management.
- **Oversee service delivery**, portfolio management, and technology investments to ensure value and resilience.
- **Act as NZQA's Chief Information Security Officer** (CISO), ensuring compliance and strategic oversight and create strong awareness of security as an asset across the organisation.
- **Inspire and influence cross-agency digital outcomes** through thought leadership and collaboration.
- **Lead and develop a high-performing Information Services team**, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
**Ko tau na i tenei turanga**|**What you'll bring to the role**:
- Previous experience in CIO roles or in roles with similar breadth and span of control
- Strong leadership skills and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in Agile and Waterfall and Lean Ux
- Willingness to get your hands dirty when needed - manage escalations and remove roadblocks
- Focus on how digital could support Te Tiriti and equity for all customers.
- Passion to work for the cause of the organisation - seeking greater purpose than just a job.
**Nga Painga o NZQA**| Why Choose NZQA**
We are a dynamic crown agency with an exciting future. We pride ourselves on being a purpose-driven organisation that values innovation, collaboration, and impact. NZQA offers professional development opportunities and a supportive team culture.
**Pehea te tono mai | How You Apply**
Ready to lead NZQA's digital transformation and help shape the future of education in Aotearoa New Zealand.
**Applications close 5pm Thursday 25th September
