**Mo te tunga | About the role**
This is a pivotal Wellington-based opportunity to lead the Information Services function at the Commerce Commission. Reporting to the General Manager, Organisation Performance and Enablement (OPE), you will oversee a talented team of professionals and drive the Commission's technology strategy to support organisational performance and future readiness. We're looking for someone to join us on a fixed-term or secondment basis while our valued team member takes a well-earned sabbatical through to January 2027.
You'll be responsible for leading the Commission's technology direction, including championing the strategic use of AI, data and digital innovation. You'll also serve as the Commission's Chief Information Security Officer, ensuring robust cyber security and risk management practices are embedded across the organisation.
As a key member of the OPE leadership team, you'll work collaboratively to deliver integrated solutions that enable the Commission to meet its strategic goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and implementation of the Information Services Strategic Plan and roadmap
- Overseeing technology and data portfolios, including investment prioritisation and benefits realisation
- Driving innovation and modernisation of infrastructure, systems and enterprise architecture
- Managing cyber security strategy, risk and compliance, and disaster recovery planning
- Building a high-performing, future-ready IS team with a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- Providing strategic advice to the Senior Leadership Team and Board

You'll be a visionary technology leader with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-wide digital strategies and leading high-performing teams. You'll bring deep expertise in information systems, cyber security, and data governance, along with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organisation.
You'll be a strategic thinker with strong planning and systems capabilities, and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. Your ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic leadership will be key to your success.
What we're looking for:
- Proven senior leadership experience in technology or information services (ideally 5+ years)
- Demonstrated experience in leading digital transformation and managing enterprise technology portfolios
- Expertise in cyber security, AI and other emerging technologies
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Experience in both public and private sector environments is desirable
