Increased collaboration and enhanced integration with the wider Regulatory Services group is critical, and we are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic self-starter to join the Upper Hutt City Council Compliance Services Team and be part of influencing our city transformation. As the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) you will play an important role working within the Compliance Services team to ensure that environmental health services are delivered to a high standard.

In addition, monitoring, inspection and reporting on alcohol licensed premises, reporting and taking relevant enforcement action where necessary. The EHO will also undertake monitoring of noise complaints against district plan requirements and investigate health nuisances.

We are looking for someone who is positive, customer focused and has the skills to contribute to the start-up of the Environmental Health Services offering as well as successful day-to-day case management and investigation whilst ensuring that legislative requirements are met.

The primary responsibility of the EHO will be to provide education, monitoring and reporting across the following areas:
Health Act registrations and investigations including nuisance complaints.

Food verifications and food safety investigations.

Resource Management Act including excessive and unreasonable noise.

Resource and Building Consent advice, contaminated land and Housing.

All Upper Hutt City Council Bylaws as they relate to environmental health functions but particularly the Appearance Industry Bylaw.

**To be considered for this role we are ideally looking for**:
Education/ Qualifications/ Experience

Other tertiary environmental health qualification (e.g., Certificate, Diploma, Degree) or training (e.g., Certification, Accreditation) in key environmental health area (e.g., noise assessment, food safety, beauty therapy, investigations).

Ideally approved auditor and/or Food Safety Officer by the Ministry of Primary Industries

Minimum of twelve months experience as a Local Authority Environmental Health Officer.

Current or recent experience (including training or study) in the following key environmental health areas: noise, food safety, beauty therapy, investigations.

Intermediate level of computer and keyboards skills (including MS Word, Excel and Access)

Membership, or eligibility for membership of the relevant Environmental Health Associations

Project management skills and familiar with managing a case load with competing priorities.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Excellent written, communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.

Problem solving skills, is responsive to issues and take initiative to find solutions, anticipates potential problems and develops actions to prevent issues from escalating

Works collaboratively to find solutions which achieve goals and those of the team.

A current NZ driver’s licence (motor vehicle).
