**Mō mātou | About us**

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do. In our work, we aim to demonstrate these values:

- We put **Tamariki** first
- We believe **Aroha** is vital
- We respect the **Mana** of people
- We are **Tika** and **Pono**:

- We value **Whakapapa**:

- We recognise that **Oranga** is a journey

We are committed to ensuring that New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child. We are also committed to ensuring Oranga Tamariki partners with hapū, iwi and Māori organisations to find appropriate solutions for tamariki in need.

**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

The Enabling Communities and Investment business unit is responsible for engaging with partners and communities to co-design new and innovative partnership services with iwi, Māori organisations, NGOs and other partners. This business unit also ensures the voices of tamariki, rangatahi and whanau are heard. These voices influence strategy, policy, practice, and operations across the organisation, so that their needs and aspirations are met to help break the cycle of tamariki involvement in the system of state care and intervention.

The Disability team is a newly created team in the Enabling Communities and Investment Group. The team will work to ensure the Oranga Tamariki Disability Strategy is being implemented across the organisation to improve how we work with disabled people to uphold the rights of disabled tamariki, rangatahi and whanau. Using engagement, advice, advocacy, monitoring and reporting, the Disability team supports Oranga Tamariki to lift its disability capability and shift its policies, practices and services to improve outcomes for the disabled people we work with.

The Disability Strategy Advisors within the Disability team are responsible for working as part of the Disability team to ensure the Strategy is being driven forward and implemented by business units across the organisation and to report on both progress and impact. To be effective in the role, strong internal and external relationships are critical.

As a member of the Voices group within Enabling Communities and Investment the Disability Strategy Advisors will help to ensure the perspectives of disabled tamariki, rangatahi and whanau are fed into the Integrated Voices programme, to ensure their needs and experiences shape broader policy, practices, services, and resource allocation across the organisation.

**Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring**

Key requirements for these roles include:
1. Knowledge of different perspectives of disabilities including but not limited to medical, social, cultural/indigenous
2. Understanding of machinery of government with ability to navigate approval processes to support action and delivery
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to gain buy-in from key stakeholders
4. Ability to prepare and contribute to policy advice and respond to external enquiries, including official correspondence
5. Prior experience of working across the landscape of disability support services with ability to embed this knowledge and understanding in your day-to-day mahi
6. Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Alongside these requirements the Senior Advisor will have demonstrated experience in particular an understanding of government policy process and be able to hit the ground running to help drive and deliver our Disability Strategy.
