**Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role**
We are seeking multiple passionate and talented Policy Analysts, to join our **Climate Change Policy - Agriculture** and **Climate Change Policy - Forestry** teams.

The roles will involve developing climate change policy advice related to agriculture and forestry and the development of legislative and regulatory instruments. We are looking for people who are keen to tackle some challenging and topical issues while developing their skills and knowledge.
The Resources and Rural Communities directorate provides high-quality strategic policy advice and thought leadership to support our sectors and communities to flourish. We work across MPI, with wider government, the primary sectors and Māori interests to support economic prosperity, and environmental and social sustainability.
**_ As part of this role, you will:_**
- Provide Ministers with clear, concise and relevant information on various issues and options;
- Support Ministers with primary sector (and climate change) portfolios by drafting timely and relevant responses to Ministerial and/or Parliamentary questions and Official Information Act requests;
- Collaborate with peers in the Policy & Trade Branch and other departments on cross-government policy development;
- Create and maintain effective internal and external relationships to progress specific issues.
**Mōu - About You**
**_ As a Policy Analyst_**, you will able to demonstrate**:
- A tertiary qualification or relevant experience in a similar position;
- Ability to privde clear, accurate, well-reasoned policy advice that is targeted to the audience;
- Excellent analytical skills;
- A background or understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Māori;
- Sound understanding of, and experience operating in, Government processes;
- Sound oral and written communication skills;
- Good interpersonal and communications skills;
- Ability to think clearly, make decisions under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage workflows;
- Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
**_As a Senior Policy Analyst_**, you will also be able to demonstrate**:
- Clear ownership of, and taking initative for, delivering your work;
- Supporting others in the team to develop their knowledge and expertise, and deliver on collective deadlines;
- Experience in leading a significant policy development process;
- Strong relationship management skills and experience working jointly with multiplestakeholders (internal and/or external).
**Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Teams**
As part of the **Climate Change - Agriculture** team you will work closely across Government agencies, and with sector and industry organisations to support the agriculture sector to meet our climate change targets and adapt to the effects of climate change. Knowledge of climate/agricultural science, New Zealand's legislative framework for climate change, and the wider context in which the primary sector operates would be an advantage. The analyst position available for this team will report to the Manager of the Climate Change Policy - Agriculture team.
As part of the **Climate Change - Forestry** team, you will work closely with colleagues in Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service, the Ministry for the Environment and other government agencies to support forestry's role in achieving New Zealand's climate change targets while managing the impacts of land use change. Knowledge of forestry, climate/environmental science, the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, and the wider context in which the primary sector operates would be an advantage.
You will work alongside a mix of Policy Analysts including Principal and Senior Policy Analysts. Both teams bring a mix of strong sector knowledge, environmental expertise, machinery of government experience and promote strategic thinking. There are close linkages between the work of the two teams which means we have a collaborative working style so that everyone feels supported in contributing to their collective goals.
The teams also work closely with the wider Policy & Trade branch, other MPI business units, government agencies and industry so there is ample opportunity to build meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
