Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Te Whatu Ora is undertaking a significant multi-year programme of change to provide the safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment that are essential for a well-functioning health system. The IIG leads major infrastructure investment by understanding and managing these, ensuring health facilities, sites and equipment that have the highest need of investment are prioritised and standardising the way these are refurbished or redeveloped.
We are seeking two Project Directors who will work within the Investment and Infrastructure Group (IIG) and report to a Programme Director. They will be responsible for undertaking and leading project activity from concept through to delivery, implementation and operational handover.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Relevant professional project management experience and confidence in understanding a variety of project processes and methodologies, such as PRINCE2, PMBOK or similar or demonstrated experience in Project delivery.
- Significant Project Director and/or leadership experience in successfully delivering Infrastructure projects with a capital cost of up to $1b - preferably in a health context
- Knowledge of the New Zeland Health Sector and/or Health Design
- Experience managing the commercial performance of projects, ensuring timely and meaningful responses to challenges, issues and opportunities, and enabling sustainable levels of high performance
- Proven experience establishing processes for identifying, managing and monitoring complex risks to project outcomes in particular safety management and design.
- Ability to lead in complex environments and manage a wide range of diverse stakeholders that are internal and external to Te Whatu Ora.
- A respected leader with demonstrated experience working at a senior management level across large and complex programmes of work include reporting to Project Governance
- Significant experience in strategic communications and an ability to take complex information and synthesise into key messages for relevant audiences
- Political nuance, with an understanding how issues play out and what is important to key stakeholders and the Government of the day
- Demonstrated skills of operating within an environment that demands a high level of senior stakeholder engagement, political nous, financial management and a solid level of commercial/contractual acumen
