Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
- ** About the Role**
As a Regional Projects Director, you'll take the lead on delivering major infrastructure investments across the Central Region. This is a senior leadership role within the Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG), working closely with stakeholders at both regional and national levels, providing leadership, assurance, and direction across a diverse portfolio of complex, high value projects from early planning through to completion.
While the role offers flexibility in where you're based within the Central Region, it does require a hands on approach. You'll need to be present on site at hospital campuses during key phases of delivery, working alongside teams, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring that what's planned on paper is being brought to life on the ground.
**About the Team/Service/ Location**
The IIG team are focused on delivering high impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
**About you**
You're someone who gets things done. You've led large, complex infrastructure projects and know how to bring people together, juggle priorities, and keep momentum going. Whether it's working with senior leaders, contractors, or community groups, you build trust through clear communication and strong relationships. You're adaptable and thrive in change. You bring energy, resilience, and a collaborative mindset to your work. You enjoy solving problems, leading teams, and finding better ways to deliver.
And most importantly, you care. You're not just here to deliver buildings - you're here to help shape a health system that delivers better outcomes for communities. You actively contribute to a positive team environment and consistently embody the values of Health NZ in your work. You understand that how you lead is just as important as what you deliver and you take pride in fostering a collaborative, inclusive and purpose-driven workplace.
**You will bring**:
- 10+ years successfully managing large-scale, complex infrastructure projects, ideally in health or construction, with budgets ranging from $5 upwards.
- Proven ability to align project delivery with organisational strategy, manage risk, and deliver measurable benefits.
- 5+ years in senior management, with a track record of building high-performing, diverse teams and fostering a culture of collaboration and respect.
- Skilled in navigating complex stakeholder environments, including government, iwi, contractors, and internal teams.
- Proven experience with business case development, benefit tracking, and executive-level reporting.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (postgraduate preferred) and professional recognition (e.g., PMI, APM).
- Able to present and influence at senior levels, with strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
- Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments, with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022
