Auckland Council's Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department has an exciting opportunity for a passionate **Healthy Waters Specialist** to join our Waterways Planning team.

As a Healthy Waters Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting a variety of programmes related to natural watercourse management, catchment-scale assessments, and spatial data acquisition. In addition to supporting these core areas, the role is also responsible for planning, procuring, and daylighting aerial and ground-based data captures—ensuring the availability of high-density LiDAR, photogrammetry, and other spatial datasets to inform and enhance the department’s planning and design initiatives.

**Day-to-day you could expect to work on**:

- Ensuring prudent and robust business and financial management in all projects, including Health and Safety management, risk management, project management, and performance reporting.
- Prioritizing the programme of works in alignment with Auckland Council's objectives, and effectively collaborating with various stakeholders such as Watercare, Auckland Transport, Parks, and infrastructure providers.
- Planning and coordinating LiDAR, photogrammetry, UAV and other aerial survey captures; oversee QA/QC, metadata, storage and day-lighting into usable DEMs and cross-sections. Execute GIS tasks in ArcGIS Pro/QGIS; write and maintain simple Python or other scripts for data QA/QC, analysis, and map production.
- Assist in geomorphic catchment assessments; help identify “hot-spots” of erosion or flood risk and support prioritization and design of monitoring or intervention.

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong background in engineering or physical geography or a closely related field. Your exceptional communication skills and talent for building positive relationships with customers and colleagues will be key.

You'll be flexible and open to change, demonstrating effective leadership in project management. Your ability to manage stakeholders and influence outcomes will be crucial for achieving success.

**We will be looking for specific experience with**:

- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physical Geography, Hydrology, or a closely related field.
- Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards full membership of a relevant professional body.
- Project management qualifications or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in the three waters infrastructure sector, with a minimum of 2 years in stormwater planning or a related specialist area.
- Demonstrated academic coursework or capstone projects in stormwater management, GIS, or geomorphology
- Familiarity with HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, or similar hydraulic modelling tools Preparing reports covering a range of technically complex issues.
- Public and stakeholder consultation/interaction.
- Contract management and administration.
