In Charities Services Ngā Ratonga Kaupapa Atawhai at the Department of Internal Affairs Te Tari Taiwhenua, we promote trust and confidence in charities, encourage good governance, and support charities to comply with their obligations under the law.
We register, monitor and investigate charities, and build sector capability by providing guidance material, and online and print resources. Our vision is that our work contributes to a well-governed, transparent and thriving charitable sector with strong public support.
As an Investigator in Charities Services your key role would be to plan and conduct investigations in order to:
- establish whether charitable entities remain eligible for registration.
- establish whether charitable entities or associated people have breached the Charities Act or are engaging in serious wrongdoing.
**You will also be required to**:
- work collaboratively with all Charities Services teams on compliance projects.
- have strong auditing skills.
- represent Charities Services in engagements with key sector stakeholders e.g. law enforcement agencies.
Along with experience using your interviewing skills (utilising the PEACE interviewing model), we need you to have:
- experience conducting complex investigations/audits in a regulatory or law enforcement environment
- a sound knowledge of the law as it relates to charities, legal process, investigation, prosecution and information management
- advanced skills to develop and deliver clear and coherent reports
- an understanding of, and practically apply, financial accounting methods/analysis
- a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, and the ability to contribute to effective strategies in achieving responsiveness to Māori
