Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Focus on alternative dispute resolution
- Flexible, inclusive, collaborative working environment
- Agile, independent, courageous regulator

Privacy is precious - help protect it
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator, a small, independent Crown entity charged with promoting and protecting privacy.

The opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Investigations and Dispute Resolution, you will investigate alleged breaches of the Privacy Act 2020, with a view to facilitating settlement wherever possible. We have a strong emphasis on the use of alternative dispute resolution methods to help resolve complaints, for example through mediation and compulsory conferences. You will also be required to write objective, well-reasoned opinions about complaints and the results of investigations. We work cross functionally and there is opportunity for you to get involved in ad hoc or special project work across the office, for example in policy development.

What you need
We are looking for someone who is able to bring enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and a passion to learn to the role.
You will need to develop a competent working knowledge of the Privacy Act and related legislation. Prior exposure to the privacy field would be an advantage but is not a pre-requisite. You do need to have, however, a keen interest in privacy issues.
You will also need relevant tertiary qualifications or experience, ideally at least 1 - 2 years in a related field, and be able to self-manage your own case load yet be a strong team player.

The reward
We try hard to help New Zealanders with an alleged breach of their privacy, in a manner that is professional and transparent. It is not something New Zealanders take lightly, and we will train you to the level of service the public have a right to expect.
You will be rewarded with working in a progressive and innovative organisation where your voice is heard and your contribution is valued. We believe in the development of our people and you will be actively supported in your professional development.

You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
Applications close 9.00 am, Monday, 3 April, unless the role is filled prior.
