**About us**:
We want more good people to come and do great things with us.
We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.
Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.
Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.
Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
**About you**:
- We’re looking for someone who is a hands-on leader for our Water Policy team that is responsible for preparing and maintaining our regional plans.
- The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills with a wide audience, and political awareness. You will have the ability to inspire confidence in leading work, providing advice, and making decisions, culminating in the work programme delivery and communication of results.
- Ability to manage and deliver in an environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing.
- We are looking for a person with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a relevant environmental Policy, Planning or Strategy discipline to lead the Council's freshwater policy view.
- Experience in managing or leading people is preferable although we would consider first time people leader for the right person.
- You will have great interpersonal skills along with proven success at building relationships and resolving resource management issues.
**Qualifications and experience**:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in resource management or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant policy or strategy related discipline
**About the role**:
- Be accountable for the review of components of the regional plans as agreed with the policy manager including the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of deliverables. The role ensures that projects are completed on-time and within budget.
- Assist the Manager Policy in leading the review, development, and delivery of Statutory Plans (incorporating the Regional Coastal Plan and Regional Plan) and policy programme, including the freshwater policy review
- To work in a manner that integrates across directorates and has strong connects to external service providers.
- Contribute to long term/ annual planning, budget preparation, forecasting and reporting.
- Provide advice / information to teams developing RMA and LGA related policies.
**Waikato Regional Council offer a range of benefits to staff including flexible working options, health and wellbeing benefits, and a great social club. We are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation, and our communities.
