We have a full-time permanent (minimum of 37.5 to 40 hours per week) opportunity for a Senior Scientist - Radiation Safety to join the National Centre for Radiation Science (NCRS) team at our Kenepuru Science Centre in Porirua, Wellington.
In this role your principal responsibility will be to lead the NCRS team's activities in relation to the National Radiation Store which ESR manages on behalf of Manatū Hauora Ministry of Health, which includes ensuring all contractual requirements are delivered.

**You may also be involved in**:

- Providing expert advice to key stakeholders including government and users of ionising radiation across the public and private sectors.
- Assisting with the provision of commercial services including training and consultancy.
- Conducting regulatory compliance on-site inspections across multiple industries.
- Preparing regulatory, technical and scientific reports.
- Participating in an on-call (24/7) emergency response roster to provide technical advice and support during radiological incidents, accidents and emergencies.
- Collaborating with other senior members of the NCRS Radiation Safety team to lead the team, mentor more junior staff, and develop business strategy.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- A relevant postgraduate qualification or an industry recognised qualification.
- At least 10 years practical experience in the radiation safety / radiation protection field.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), including the communication of risk and risk management strategies, to non-scientific audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience of managing contentious issues.
- You will be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- You will be able to undertake domestic travel, often for 5 days away from home, on a regular basis.
- Collaboration and teamwork skills to work with other departments, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
- Understanding and knowledge of national and international regulations governing the use and storage of radioactive materials.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a New Zealand national security clearance at the SECRET level.
- You must have a full drivers licence

The indicative salary range is from $100,818 - $108,992, with additional benefits and international relocation assistance as applicable.
