We have an exciting opportunity for a new Technician to join our successful and growing Health Group based at our Kenepuru Science Centre in Porirua. This is a role which will allow you to develop your skillset providing varied support to the Legionella Laboratory team.

Te tūnga | The role

You will be involved in a range of laboratory tasks including analysis of clinical and environmental samples using microbiological and molecular techniques, perform calculations and the interpretation of results, and carry out laboratory housekeeping tasks with responsibility for maintaining laboratory equipment.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- A relevant science qualification or will be well advanced in study
- Registration or ability to gain registration with Medical Sciences Council
- Previous laboratory experience with understanding of microbiological principles and practice, including immunofluorescence microscopy and bacterial culture
- Good understanding and experience of molecular biology principles and practice, including nucleic acid extraction techniques, PCR and DNA sequence analysis
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Accuracy with mathematical calculations and an understanding of statistical measurement
- A sound understanding of safe laboratory practices and quality systems
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and to plan own work schedule.
