The Operations Manager, Southdown, is a strategically important member of the CT leadership team responsible for ensuring the Terminal operates _safely_ and _efficiently _at all times. This includes staff wellbeing, the environment, budgeting, overall performance i.e. scheduling, people and equipment readiness, trucks and train timeliness. You'll lead a team of 30-40 staff and be responsible for on-job performance, training, compliance, and personal development.

As a safety leader, you will champion KiwiRail safety health and wellbeing initiatives, promote awareness, vigilance and compliance at the same time develop, nurture and grow, a culture of making safety _personal._

- You will manage hazards, safety inductions and incidents to ensure compliance is upheld according to health and safety regulations
- Oversee team performance and training through effective communication and efficient resource planning
- Develop long-term operational and safety plans and implement systems to gather performance data for continuous improvement
- Control variable costs, ensuring it aligns with budget targets and drives cost-saving initiatives to optimize financial performance
- Ensure standard operating procedures are followed, maintain on-time performance, provide necessary equipment, and communicate effectively with customers to meet service standards
- Oversee terminal operations, implement processes to enhance turnaround performance, and address specific freight requirements, including dangerous goods and refrigerated cargo

- Proven leadership experiences in a container terminal or similar operational type organisation
- Minimum 5 years’ management experience
- Degree or relevant tertiary qualification
- Recognised professional in a specialist area with proven experience leading small to medium sized projects
- Ability to perform complex calculations and is able to analyse and interpret information
