Now is an exciting time to join Toitu Te Whenua, LINZ as **Principal Geospatial Specialist - Data Solutions Lead.** The geospatial data we manage plays a crucial role in supporting national outcomes and decision-making across Aotearoa, New Zealand. We are beginning an exciting journey to modernise our topographic mapping system and geospatial data management. We are seeking a visionary leader who can transform our data solution approach through innovative yet practical solutions.
Initially focusing on our topographic data transformation, you will shape how we collect, maintain, and deliver high-value geospatial data. Your strategic thinking and technical expertise will lead and identify opportunities to enhance our data management capabilities. Once these opportunities are identified, your focus will shift to the implementation and delivery of these solutions.
As the thought leader in this space, you will build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure optimised data provision and quality. Our dynamic environment offers the opportunity to influence and shape the future of geospatial data management, with the focus of the role evolving to meet national priorities.
**Korero mo te turanga -**Key Responsibilities**
Lead strategic thinking on next-generation geospatial data management approaches, concentrating initially on topographic feature data and connections with other geographic datasets
- Design and deliver robust, practical solutions for data processing, automation, and maintenance
- Actively influence and collaborate with external stakeholders to improve data quality at source
- Provide Product Ownership and delivery of national topographic datasets
- Share knowledge and build capability across the organisation and beyond
**He pukenga tou - Skills & Experience**
- Strong expertise in data management, processing, and transformation
- Proven experience in leading and delivering enterprise data management solutions
- A deep understanding of geospatial datasets and concepts, especially regarding modernising and improving processes and data integrity
- Proven proactive national and international stakeholder engagement with excellent influential communication skills
- Awareness of system architecture with experience in working effectively with systems architects and developers
- Proven examples of product ownership/responsibilities for major datasets with a large customer base
- Proven experience of delivering work within an Agile environment
- Competent in cloud computing with knowledge of OGC standards and cloud-optimised geospatial data formats, especially AWS.
- Relevant experience or tertiary qualification in computer science and/or geospatial disciplines.
The expected appointing salary for this position is between $135,000 - $160,000, dependant on experience.
