Palmerston North City Council provides services to over 90,000 residents, employing over 650 staff across a broad range of functions. To support its continued success, we’re seeking expressions of interest for a Chief Infrastructure Officer (CIO).

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CIO will lead us in delivering on the infrastructure aspects of our Long Term Plan.

Included in this portfolio are Asset Management Planning; Parks and Logistics; Project Management Office; Property and Resource Recovery; Transport and Development and Three Waters. You will be responsible for the largest budgets in the organisation and have 300 people in your team helping serve our community.

Outstanding organisational leadership is at the heart of this role, so it will be important for the appointee to have a background that includes leading and enabling teams to flourish, and in guiding people to unify around ambitious organisational goals. A background in local government is preferred but not essential, and experience in leading teams of comparable size and complexity will also be useful.

As a member of our Senior Leadership Team, the CIO will be able to take an executive organisation-wide approach to problem definition and resolution. Business partnership is central to the work of the Infrastructure Unit, so the CIO will be expert and forging broad, collegial relationships with internal and community partners.
