**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**: We are looking for a new permanent Policy Advisor for the Strategy and Evaluation Team which is part of System, Strategy and Performance (SSP) in the Building System Performance Branch.

The Building System Performance Branch provides policy and technical advice on New Zealand's building system, rules and standards. We implement building legislation and regulations to grow New Zealand for all.

Within the branch SSP is responsible for organising and facilitating strategic planning across MBIE’s building regulatory system. We help colleagues across the system understand what is happening in the construction sector and make decisions on the most effective actions we can take as regulatory stewards. To do this, the team maintains a strategic view of current and emerging trends in the building and construction sector, works with colleagues to understand how to monitor and evaluate how the building system is performing, and helps colleagues use this evidence base to determine our overall vision and create strategies for priority work areas. These priorities include improving seismic resilience, ensuring regulation is fit-for-purpose, improving reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.

As a member of the Strategy and Evaluation team, you will be is responsible for supporting the overall capability of the team and SSP more generally. You will gather evidence; analyse policy issues and develop policy options; prepare policy advice for defined policy issues; and contribute to larger, more complex projects where others have the accountability for the delivery of outputs.

We are looking for a motivated person with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, who is comfortable with ambiguity, and able to deliver results.

**You will have a good tertiary qualification and ideally**:

- able to build requisite knowledge for different policy issues quickly drawing on information and evidence from multiple and diverse sources
- excellent written and oral communication skills with an eye for detail
- a collaborative approach to working with others and experience in working effectively with Ministers, public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
