Ko mātou tēnei | Who we are
Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is Aotearoa New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency. Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.
Our responsibilities for retail payment regulation require a team of people with policy, finance, payments, economic and legal backgrounds. We are currently looking for Analysts/ Senior Analysts who are passionate and keen to learn about the retail payment system. Your problem-solving skills will help ensure the payments industry is delivering more value for all New Zealanders.
We are looking for Analyst/Senior Analysts to join our growing team and you can be based in our either Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
You will help identify and implement ways to make the payments industry more competitive so that all New Zealanders can benefit from this increased competition. Our Payments team is passionate about giving businesses and consumers greater confidence about ways to pay through improved transparency, and encouraging innovation that delivers more value to New Zealanders.
You will have the opportunity to work across each of our main regulatory activities: regulation and rule setting, monitoring market performance, and compliance and enforcement.
You'll work collaboratively with different skillsets in our multidisciplinary team, as well as across other branches in the organisation. You'll need to be comfortable working with legal and economic regulatory concepts, be able to wrap your head around this complex system and deal with a certain level of ambiguity. You'll engage with a diverse set of stakeholders and also have direct engagement with our decision-makers, the Commissioners.
He kōrero mōu | About you
First and foremost, you have a positive attitude and thrive in a team environment. You'll be able to think, write and communicate clearly and offer sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Some knowledge of the payments, banking and/or finance sectors is helpful, but not essential. Ideally, you will also be someone who has:
- a curious mind, a great learning aptitude and is keen to understand how the retail payment system works, where there are issues and how to get better outcomes for businesses and consumers
- the ability to understand accounting and economic principles and interpret legislation
- the ability to derive insights from different information sources and bring information to life for different stakeholders
- relevant policy or regulatory experience working with monitoring, rule-setting and/or compliance and enforcement functions
- strong verbal and written communication skills, and
- a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
